New York, Paris, Seoul…etc. This is not the itinerary of an A-list fashion magazine editor; it’s only a portion of the travel schedule and media accolades for A-list fashion designer, Lie Sang Bong (www.liesangbong.com).
The buzz for LSB’s F/W 2012 line has been non-stop since the introduction of 10 of the total 41 looks from the collection. Lie Sang Bong has gained a well-deserved reputation for delivering edgy designs every season and the F/W 2012 LSB line has
kept his reputation in tact with melodic blend of fall hues: maroon, black, gray and white. Lie Sang Bong has tailored several fall jackets in his new fall palette while adding a little flare (zippers which make his jackets multi-functional, sleeves detach and waist-length jackets that transform to short jackets with a zip).
Lie Sang Bong’s translates his inspiration for each collection into a theme; this season’s theme, stone patterns: inspired by “Dol Dam,” the traditional Korean stonewalls built by stacking pieces of stones together. At the Paris and Seoul shows, the model faces were adorned with a painted, black stone. The pattern in red and “black” stones decorates bustiers and the accompanying leather shorts in a raised, stone pattern. The same stones in a plastic-like form in black, red and navy are strategically placed on the floor-hugging mesh evening dress; a shorter, mesh dress uses a related layout of black stone.
Nana Lee, director of Blank Space and publicist for LSB, continues to be impressed by Lie Sang Bong’s never-ending creativity “I can look at the cut and tell if a piece is Lie Sang Bong, even before I know for sure. He continues to cut his clothes in a way that compliments a woman’s shape.” When your style speaks for your work, even before someone checks the label, you’re not just a designer…you’re an
artist and Lie Sang Bong’s work is nothing short of artistry.
Press Review: Concept Korea V
[By Style-ology Magazine Fashion Correspondent Kim Green / Kim Gee PR]
For the fifth time, Korea’s leading fashion designers brought their unique artistic visions to the Stage at Lincoln Center. Five designers were selected by Concept Korea to represent the republic of Korea in the development of global fashion content and assist Korean Designers in their attempts to break into overseas fashion markets. The selected designers for the Fall/Winter 2012 season were:
*Lie Sang Bong (www.liesangbong.com) Showing the perfect pairing of architectural silhouettes with the feminine form
*DO HO (www.doho.co.kr) Embodies women as the “heroine”; seductive liberalism aiming high to bring life and art together
*Lee Juyoung / Resurrection (www.resurrectionbyjuyoung.com) Menswear known for edgy collections rich in ornate detail
*Son Jung Wan (www.sonjungwan.co.kr) Women designs defining what is modern, romantic, luxurious, elegant and chic
*Steve J & Yoni P (www.stevejandyonip.com) Chaotic harmony of bold color and design
As part of this season’s event, the designers have also opened up local showrooms to display their works until June 2012. The number of showrooms has expanded from last year to give ample space to each team, and the duration of the displays has been extended to give more people the opportunity to interact with Korean fashion.
This year overall theme was “Ink Wash Painting” (a type of East Asian brush painting which cannot be changed or erased), and the designers expressed the spirit of this technical and demanding art form.

Press Review: Walter Steiger Spring/Summer 2012

By Style-ology Magazine Fashion Correspondent: Kim Green
Picture it…a rainy, black night with a Manhattan view: raindrops dance on the windows of the loft on the 38th floor of a New York City high rise; red couches, modern art and…shoes (everywhere you see shoes). But these aren’t just your regular pumps, it’s the Spring/Summer 2012 collection of Walter Steiger (www.waltersteiger.com)—the unmistakable shoes recognized by the outward arched heel and supports some of the most innovate styles ever to hit the runway (and the pavement). You don’t have to peek at the inside label of a Walter Steiger shoe, just look at the heel!
The new line includes styles such as Praline, Pretty, Polly, Promise, Puzzle, Pelican, Piper, Punchy and Playoff. A lot of stylish names with “P”, but it’s hard not to notice another stylish “P” in the decadent Walter Steiger showroom: Paul Steiger (the grandson of Walter Steiger) who currently manages New York operations. He didn’t plan to join the company. He was working for Oscar de la Renta, while his brother Giulio managed the New York store. When Giulio left to aid the Paris store, Paul stepped in to manage the New York operation. He was supposed to stay for a month; one month has now turned into three wonderfully fashionable years.
The Manhattan showroom is a great distance and a big change from the company started by Walter Steiger in 1932. Walter, Jr. took the company international in 1974 by opening a boutique in Paris. In 2012, the company will mark 80 years. “We have been around for a long time. We have a client who has followed us since the first flagship store in 1974. Our clients have always been fashion forward,” says Paul.
This season’s line includes spunky wedges, Steiger-istic signature heels with spring prints, strapped heels in near-neon yellow with glowing green and several neutral colors including variations of pink; from soft pinks for spring to hot pink for summer.
The Spring/Summer 2012 line offers more of the well-noted quality and fashion-forward designs that clients have come to expect from Walter Steiger, whether they’ve been clients since 1974 or were born in 1974.

Press Review: Lie Sang Bong

By: Style-ology Magazine Fashion Correspondent Kim Green
Lie Sang Bong is an architect. His materials include leather and Korean Jogakbo. His blueprints layout amazing, colorful clothing that could be transferred to a great artist’s canvas. His fashion shows are Broadway productions on a runway. Considered Korea’s best fashion designer, many would rather regard him as one of Korea’s best gifts to the artistic world. And throughout the 25 years of his career, he has received the accolades that most designers only read about in fashion magazines.
In his book, “The Truth of Lie Sang Bong,” he explains his outlook on fashion. “Fashion to me is something that goes beyond commercial clothing. The charm of fashion rests where industry and art intertwine and find harmony together.” Lie’s pieces make you want to take a walk on the cusp between art and fashion, free from any previous concerns with being “too over the top” or “too far out.”
His Fall Winter 2011/2012 collection uses the finest Italian leathers in whites and blacks adorned with the circular, raised patterns that invite you to imagine yourself wearing them. The leather skirts, tops and jackets are light and can be combined and interchanged almost effortlessly to communicate a powerful, warm message and to command a second and third glance. The pattern is continued in large belts, bags and in select dresses in the collection.
For Spring Summer 2012, Lie Sang Bong continues raised patterns, but in shades of tan leather accented with intricate patterns on asymmetrical short shirts, form-fitting leather dresses and coordinating jackets. If you look closely, you’ll notice the blue, floral lining that seals each loop, circle and curve.
The spring collection adds color in combinations that seem naturally complimentary. Lie uses color either as an accent to a solid color piece or the piece is color. The finale piece of the spring collection is a blue-green, black leather dress with the same circular pattern that accents other pieces in the collection; however, this dress is a continuous lattice pattern which begins below the shoulders and flows to the ground. Tights of the same coloring and pattern accessorize the dress. What we witness in Lie’s collection is a spiritual gift taking a form and we have the chance to experience it and breathe it in. Talent like this is not learned, but nurtured and shared. Thank goodness that we’re the recipients of such an experience.
If you’d like to view Lie’s collections, including a new men’s line, it is currently housed in New York City at Blank Space in Chelsea. Director Nana Lee shows this collection as if she is proud to be one of the few to “breathe it in” on a daily basis.
Lie Sang Bong (www.liesangbong.com) has more colors to reintroduce to us. And we, are ready to receive!
Happy Halloween!
