Picture it…a rainy, black night with a Manhattan view: raindrops dance on the windows of the loft on the 38th floor of a New York City high rise; red couches, modern art and…shoes (everywhere you see shoes). But these aren’t just your regular pumps, it’s the Spring/Summer 2012 collection of Walter Steiger (www.waltersteiger.com)—the unmistakable shoes recognized by the outward arched heel and supports some of the most innovate styles ever to hit the runway (and the pavement). You don’t have to peek at the inside label of a Walter Steiger shoe, just look at the heel!

The new line includes styles such as Praline, Pretty, Polly, Promise, Puzzle, Pelican, Piper, Punchy and Playoff. A lot of stylish names with “P”, but it’s hard not to notice another stylish “P” in the decadent Walter Steiger showroom: Paul Steiger (the grandson of Walter Steiger) who currently manages New York operations. He didn’t plan to join the company. He was working for Oscar de la Renta, while his brother Giulio managed the New York store. When Giulio left to aid the Paris store, Paul stepped in to manage the New York operation. He was supposed to stay for a month; one month has now turned into three wonderfully fashionable years.

The Manhattan showroom is a great distance and a big change from the company started by Walter Steiger in 1932. Walter, Jr. took the company international in 1974 by opening a boutique in Paris. In 2012, the company will mark 80 years. “We have been around for a long time. We have a client who has followed us since the first flagship store in 1974. Our clients have always been fashion forward,” says Paul.

This season’s line includes spunky wedges, Steiger-istic signature heels with spring prints, strapped heels in near-neon yellow with glowing green and several neutral colors including variations of pink; from soft pinks for spring to hot pink for summer.

The Spring/Summer 2012 line offers more of the well-noted quality and fashion-forward designs that clients have come to expect from Walter Steiger, whether they’ve been clients since 1974 or were born in 1974.
